Cancellation of Carols by Candlelight

  • 12 December 2021

With much regret, in the light of the most recent guidance from the Church of Scotland around the current Covid situation, the Carols by Candlelight service scheduled for Friday 17th December at the West Kirk has been cancelled.

At this moment in time, we hope all other services around Christmas

- the Nativity service at West Kirk on Sunday 19th December at 10.30am

- the  Family Christmas Eve service at Polbeth Harwood Church on Friday 24th December at 6.30pm

- the Watchnight service at West Kirk on Friday 24th December at 11.30pm

will take place as scheduled.

We would, however, ask all attending these services to continue to wear masks and maintain social distancing from other family groups around them in the pews.

Thank you for your understanding.

Have a safe and happy family Christmas

A Message from our Minister: December 2021

Hi Everybody

And just like that, Christmas is around the corner!

It’s been so nice to welcome you all back to church this past 6 months. I’m really thankful that our church doors a now fully open again, and we can meet every Sunday to worship God and have fellowship with each other.

In Luke 1:38, after the angle told Mary that she was going to give birth to the Saviour of the world, Mary responded with these words: “I am the Lord's servant, may it happen to me as you have said.”

It’s my prayer that this Christmas, and all through 2022, we will be able to hear God’s voice the way Mary did, and respond with the same trust and enthusiasm.

May God bless you all this Christmas, in the new year, and forever more!

Advent Rorate Mass

  • 28 November 2021

A kind invitation has been extended to us from the priest and our friends at Our Lady & St Bridget's chapel in West Calder to join with them and participate in an Advent Mass taking place on Wednesday 15th December at 7pm.

Nanda will give the reflection at this service.

This Rorate Mass is held almost in darkness with only candles providing the light. The lack of light symbolises that of the peoples of the Old Testament waiting in darkness for the Messiah and is the congregation's way of reliving the first meaning of Advent and preparing for Christmas with a renewed sense of expectancy and joy.

Those attending are encouraged to take along a torch or electric lantern with them as the church will be quite dark.

West Calder High School project: Volunteers wanted

As part of the school's Covid recovery work, the staff at WCHS are keen to work with some of our young people whose literacy is particularly poor, and who would benefit from additional support with reading.

To do this, Laura Quilter is keen to engage some local retirees and would welcome any members of our congregations who might be able to offer an hour or two each week to come into the high school and read with individual young people.

Thanks in advance to any volunteers who would be interested in participating - please contact Nanda who will then liaise with the school.
