Some while ago, our friends at East Calder and Kirknewton Church set up a Community Listening Project.

They are now delighted to find that they have been shortlisted for the member choice award for Scotmid funding - the only project chosen in West Lothian - and are looking for a bit of support.

This shortlisting means they receive £1,000 for their project.

HOWEVER, the project then goes out to member choice with the chance to win £5,000. There will be six charities competing for the additional funding.

if you are a member of Scotmid i.e. you shop at Scotmid and hold a membership card, you can vote on where you want the money to go. If If not, you can apply for membership (Costing £1) applying online at https://scotmid.coop/membership/

Each transaction puts a vote in for the chosen project so we're encouraged to go to the tills more frequently with smaller lists than do one big shop. You need to use a manned till and tell the cashier who you're voting for - KNEC COMMUNITY LISTENING PROJECT (they will not automatically ask you when you present the membership card with payment for your shop.)

When applying for a membership card, you should be emailed a registration number which you can quote to the cashier before you get the membership card. Voting closes on 31st July 2025

A Message From Our Minister

Dear Friends

In Psalm 121:5 we read: “… The Lord is your shade at your right hand.” This wee sentence might not be very meaningful to Scottish people, who usually see so little of the sun, that when the sun is out, they can’t get enough of it! But we’ve had some amazing summer weather this year already, and with the heat as intense as it was for a few days, I think everyone realised the importance of a spot of shade. The sun can get too hot, and then shade is the only place you can hide away from it. And the shade protects you from the harm the sun can cause you.
God is like that – he protects us against harm. But I think the author of this Psalm means even more than that, because in the context this was written, it almost makes more sense to read it as “… The Lord is your shadow at your right hand.” In Biblical times the “right hand” always referred to the strong hand, the hand a soldier would hold his sword in. And your shadow is always with you. No matter what you do, you will never get rid of your shadow.
In other words: God is always there, to protect you, and to support you…
Let’s remember that when we enjoy the sun (and the rain!) this summer.

May God bless you all,
Nanda
